Relevant Experience:
With an extensive background in emerging technologies and digital media, my work has been showcased globally, including at MoMA (Museum of Modern Art | NYC). I am currently serving as an artist in residence with the MUD Foundation’s “Loop Art Critique” — a juried residency for experimental XR artists. My expertise in mixed realities, underscored by a masters thesis focused on virtual and physical space collaboration, provides a robust foundation for my proposed Decentraland Music Festival installation. The culmination of this expertise is evident in my previous projects which have always sought to push the envelope, both in terms of medium and message. Examples of previous work can be seen throughout this proposal.
Proposed Project Information
Title:
Nexus of Perception
Concept Overview:
Drawing inspiration from the theme of "Rebirth & Regeneration", "Nexus of Perception" is a 3D interactive installation that blurs the lines between human perception of reality and the medium of virtual worlds. Utilizing emerging technology and innovative aesthetics, this space will offer participants an experience that embraces the interactive possibilities of the Decentraland environment and challenges their own understanding of digital realities.
Connection to Theme:
Just as "Rebirth & Regeneration" signifies a cycle of renewal, this installation seeks to reevaluate and renew our perception of immersive, digital experiences. It's not just an art piece; it's an exploration of how we perceive, interact with, and derive meaning from the virtual world around us.
Design & Aesthetic:
Drawing inspiration from the Bauhaus movement's conceptual focus on shape and form, "Nexus of Perception" will utilize abstract forms and designs. Structures within the space will dynamically reshape, offering a tangible representation of our evolving understanding and interaction with digital spaces.
Interactive Elements:
1. “Perception Portals”: These are gateways within the installation that transport participants to various themed spaces within the festival, each representing a different layer or mode of perception.
2. “Reality Reconstructor”: Participants can manipulate objects in the space, interacting with objects to change texture, color, and sound. User play an active role in “regenerating the space.
3. “SoundScape Shift”: This element allows participants to contribute to a collaborative soundscape, symbolizing the collective consciousness and evolving nature of shared realities. The hope would be to highlight independent sound artists who are working in the realm of immersive and/or deep listening audio.
Event Proposal:
I propose a 'meet the creator' Q&A, melded with a live art demonstration. Participants can watch as I engage with the installation, pushing its boundaries in real-time, while discussing the concept, design choices, and the fusion of art and emerging technology. This will offer attendees a deeper understanding of the work and the philosophy behind it.
Additionally, providing an opportunity for “listening parties” within the space would provide an impactful community experience for artists/musicians who would like to have their work played in the immersive envrionment.
Technical Details:
The installation will be crafted ensuring it adheres to the 32m x 32m base dimensions and stays under 45m in height. All designs will be rendered in Blender and exported in the .glb file format. All technical specifications such as file size, triangle count, materials, textures, and entities will be compliant with Decentraland's requirements.
Thank You:
I greatly appreciate your thoughtful consideration of my proposal. I am deeply passionate about pioneering new frontiers in the metaverse and believe that Nexus of Perception will be a noteworthy contribution to Decentraland Music Festival ‘23, providing a unique and thought-provoking experience for all attendees.
Best regards,
